We have held a number of events across Sussex and East Surrey, and we are also going out to speak with groups and communities. Members of the public have also had the opportunity to voice their views via the Our Health and Care…Our FUTURE surveys.

We have been asking people we engage with to give us their views on priorities for health care, based on the key areas outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan:
- Supporting people with long term conditions
- Community and out of hospital care- integrated teams
- Mental health and wellbeing
- Maternity and children’s services
- GP (primary) care
- Improving emergency care
- Digital solutions
The outcomes of this exercise so far are outlined below; note that this is indicative only, and will not be used in isolation to prioritise NHS funding or service delivery.
Our discussions focussed on the FUTURE of health and care:
- Facing up to our challenges
- Understanding need
- Transforming services
- Unwarranted variation – ensuring this does not happen
- Resources and how we use them most effectively
- Equity of access and care for our diverse population
Our Population Health Check
The NHS has published a ‘long-term plan’ (https://www.england.nhs.uk/long-term-plan/) that sets out the priorities and ambitions for the years ahead to make sure the NHS continues to provide high quality care across the country. Local organisations have been asked to work together as part of health and care systems to develop their own plans by autumn 2019 which will set out how the national long-term plan will work across local areas.
To help develop the local plan, doctors, specialists and clinicians have come together across Sussex and East Surrey to develop a 'Population Health Check'. They have looked at clinical evidence, patient experience and local population information to give a diagnosis of what needs to change from their expert point of view. Click here to read more.
